On April 18, 2017, Mike Bennett was signed to WWE. On June 18, at the Money in the Bank event, he made his debut alongside his wife, Maria Kanellis.

In the weeks following, the Kanellis couple would be interrupted by Sami Zayn on several occasions. This led to the Kanellis couple demanding an apology from Zayn on the July 11 episode of WWE programming.

When Zayn refused, Maria slapped him, and Mike attacked him with a vase. This began a feud between the two superstars, with Bennett and Kanellis playing the role of villains.

According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the Kanellis couple has asked WWE for their release from their contracts.

Sources have mentioned that the two have been unhappy with their treatment in WWE for some time. This comes after Mike Kanellis requested his release from WWE back in October, just four months after signing a multi-year contract with the company.
