The Career of Fawaz Al-Hasawi
Fawaz Mubarak Al-Hasawi is a Kuwaiti businessman and was, until recently, the owner and chairman of Nottingham Forest Football Club.

Fawaz is also well-known for his successful presidency of Qadsia SC between 2010-2012. The club won several Kuwaiti Premier League titles, Emir Cups, the Federation Cup, and the Super Cup.
Nottingham Forest
During the takeover, Forest was amidst chaos and facing many difficult obstacles.
The previous chairman and benefactor Doughty’s passing left the club in an unstable financial state. They had only just barely avoided relegation to League One, and with such few first-team players, it was clear that drastic changes needed to be made.

The Al-Hasawi family wasted no time putting their stamp on the club by firing manager Steve Cotterill and replacing him with Sean O’Driscoll, a former Forest coach.
On December 15, 2012, Fawaz Al-Hasawi made the decision to become the new chairman, succeeding his cousin Omar Al-Hasawi.
After a 4–2 victory over Leeds United, and with Forest in the running for promotion to the Championship, Fawaz made the surprising decision to get rid of manager O’Driscoll.
Al-Hasawi had received advice from the board of Hull City that a manager with Premier League experience would be needed to secure promotion. He originally planned to fire O’Driscoll on Christmas Day, but Forest Chief Executive Mark Arthur refused to follow the order until the following day.

Fawaz went on to give interviews with BBC sports journalists, comparing Billy Davies to Alex Ferguson and saying that Forest could return to the UEFA Champions League level in the future.
However, this happened at the same time that Davies started to ban and restrict media access to the football club, causing a lot of tension between the team and the press.

In March 2014, poor results and a lack of communication between him and Fawaz led to Billy Davies becoming the fourth manager to be dismissed during the Al-Hazawi period of ownership.
Delays in pay to staff and players became common under Al-Hasawi. During the 2015-16 season, Nottingham Forest was placed under a transfer embargo by the Football League due to excessive losses. This forced new manager Dougie Freedman to only bring in players through free transfers and loans.
Al-Hasawi would often summon Freedman to his home in London at midnight, leaving Freedman to be deprived of sleep for training the next day.
Fawaz was accused of meddling in team selection while caretaker manager Paul Williams was in charge.
In 2016-17, Al-Hasawi agreed to sell Oliver Burke to RB Leipzig, angering Forest fans. By now, Al-Hasawi had become unpopular at the club, with many fans protesting against his ownership.
Stan Collymore joined Forest fans in a protest against Al-Hasawi after talks to sell the club to a U.S. consortium fell through.

Al-Hasawi originally planned to stay as Forest’s chairman and retain 20% ownership of the club, but he was eventually convinced that he would have to leave the club entirely.
On May 18, 2017, only eleven days after, Forest barely avoided relegation from the championship division. The club was sold to Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis, also the owner of Olympiacos.
Under Al-Hasawi’s charge, Forest had declined in league position every season, going from 8th during the 2012-13 season to 21st in the 2016-17 season.
