Early Life of Seimone Augustus

Seimone Augustus, born April 30, 1984, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a professional player for the Minnesota Lynx. 

Seimone Augustus grew up in Baton Rouge and spent a lot of time with her father playing ball as if he were schooling her.

It wasn’t long after his training sessions that she started copying his every move and became the best player on whatever team she was on before high school, where she had her first formal basketball coaching.

She ended up enrolling at LSU, where she was soon given the honor of being All-American three times during her collegiate career and won the WNBA Rookie Of The Year Award in 2004, just five years after graduation.

From there, she played for Team USA in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, winning two more Olympic Gold Medals back to back.

Seimone Coleman has played many sports at Capital High School. She excelled in both basketball and track, where she participated in the 1986 400-meter relay team and ran the 400-meter sprint.

This impressive achievement led to her being named Louisiana’s 4A Player of the Year.

She scored an average of 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in her freshman year. In total, she won All American two times, Naismith College Player of the Year, Wooden Award, and Wade trophy, respectively, in 2005 and 2006.

She played basketball while she attended Louisiana State University. And as the top overall performer of her senior class, she was presented with the Lowe’s Senior Class Award upon graduating in 2006. She married Lataya Varner in July of 2015, after having proposed to her back in 2010.

Her best season was also one of the worst for the Lynx team as they finished with 10 wins and 24 losses against the 2007 powerhouse LA Sparks team, which won them their first championship that year.
