Matt pursued his high school education at Woking High School in Surrey, United Kingdom. Then he had his theater education at Sylvia Young Theatre School which is located in London, England, United Kingdom.

As a “problem” child, Willis often snuck out of the house by wobbling down drain pipes. He also struggled with tunnel vision, asthma, and hyperactivity.

Matt was asked to leave his previous secondary school, as he went to Woking High School before leaving to attend the independent fee-paying Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone, London. There, he met his now friends Lee Ryan, Tom Fletcher, Billie Piper, Jodi Albert, and the late Amy Winehouse.

‘It can be very difficult to overcome addiction, but it’s something that many people have to do to get their lives back on track.

In 2005, at 21, Willis sought treatment for alcoholism at London’s Priory Hospital. Just a year later, in 2006, he was admitted again for drug abuse, this time for addiction to cannabis.

Unfortunately, the drug use led to some serious memory and physiological problems. But in 2008, aged 25, Willis finally entered a rehab center in Bournemouth after his marriage ultimatum – and finally began to turn his life around.

It was widely reported that a night out with close friend Amy Winehouse was the final straw for Willis. After that, he enrolled in a five-week course on drugs and alcohol.

In November 2007, Willis claimed to have quit smoking (he had been smoking since he was 11), but there have been photos of him smoking since then.

Shortly after completing rehab, Willis was recruited by the Church of Scientology, but he left the Church later on. Reportedly, the Church had advised him to break up with his partner of three years, Emma Griffiths, who the Church deemed to be a “suppressive person.”
