On December 29, 2010, at the 27th Chaos Communications Congress, hacking group fail0verflow gave a presentation that showed how Sony had made a mistake in using ECDSA signatures by not publishing the corresponding private key.
Then on January 2, 2011, Hotz posted a copy of the PlayStation 3’s private key on his website. However, because of legal action taken by Sony against fail0verflow and Hotz, these keys were later removed from Hotz’s website.
